Walk into some temples, in China or Japan, and you might be lucky enough to see two disheveled figures: hair affright, clothes tattered, appearance generally unkempt. Often they are laughing uproariously, sometimes bent over in glee, or you may see one slapping the other on the back. Pretty unseemly for a couple of "holy men."
