In the previous episode, we met the wildly popular figure of Guanyin (or Guanshiyin), the Bodhisattva of Compassion, and heard six (of twelve selected) tales of how he/she saved people in various kinds of need.
I'll just note again here that, although the figure of Avalokiteshvara/Guanyin was decidedly male early on, and more feminine later, he she/can appear in any form necessary to save. I'll talk more about that in the Notes.
This time, we'll look at two tales where captives are freed; three where illnesses are cured; and one where a bridge was built to ensure peoples' safety.
